Why a deposit changes who shows up
The mechanism here is not complicated, and it is worth understanding before you look at any arithmetic.
A booking with nothing attached to it costs the customer nothing to abandon. They called four locksmiths, took the first appointment that sounded reasonable, and then a friend offered to drive them to the dealer instead. Cancelling never crosses their mind, because from where they sit there is nothing to cancel — they simply stop being at the address when you arrive.
A deposit does two things at once. It creates a small, concrete cost to walking away, and — more usefully — it forces the decision forward in time. Somebody who is not actually going to go through with the job tends to decline the deposit on the call, which means you find out at booking time rather than at the curb forty minutes later. The tire-kicker filters themselves out before they occupy a slot.

A worked example (hypothetical)
